Police: Man, 19, caught with gun while on probation in Miami-Dade

MIAMI – A 19-year-old man was at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Saturday accused of having a gun while on probation in Miami-Dade County.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections, Julius E. Viera’s probation felony supervision had just started on April 1; it was set to end on March 31, 2026.

Court records show prosecutors filed five cases against him last year. Viera’s convictions were for burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, criminal mischief with property damage, and driving a vehicle involved in a crash resulting in injury.

According to Miami-Dade inmate records, the court had issued three warrants for his arrest. Two were for a probation violation and the other was a hold for a magistrate.

Miami-Dade correctional officers booked him at TGKCC on Friday on charges of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm by a minor. They had him on a standard hold.

Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Michelle Ashby Delancy is presiding over the new case. Viera’s arraignment hearing was set for 9 a.m., on May 21.
