Victim dies at hospital after being shot in Miami

Family members ID him as Demarco Harris, 24

MIAMI ā€“ Miami police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday morning.

According to first responders, the shooting occurred in a parking lot in the area of 35th Street and North Miami Avenue.

City of Miami Fire-Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez said the victim was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He said the victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospitalā€™s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, but he later died at the hospital.

Family members identified him as Demarco Harris, 24.

They believe he was in the area working as a rideshare driver and waiting for rides. They said they have no idea why someone would shoot him dead.

A Local 10 News photojournalist was at the scene as Miami police blocked off the parking lot with crime scene tape.

Officers were seen looking at blood on the ground and shoes, and speaking with people in the area.

A witness told Local 10ā€²s Annaliese Garcia that they heard about seven gunshots.

Police confirmed that there were two pairs of shoes found at the scene, but there was only one victim.

ā€œWe looked at several local hospitals to see if maybe someone checked themselves in, but we havenā€™t located a subject or another victim,ā€ a spokesman for the police department said.

No other details were immediately released.

Anyone with further information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
