Royal Caribbean extends sailing suspensions for majority of fleet until June 1
MIAMI – Royal Caribbean announced to customers in an email Tuesday that it will be extending its sailing suspensions for the majority of its fleet until June 1 as it continues to make “return to service preparations.”The cruise line’s most recent plan was to resume its broader global operations on May 1. The change in plan excludes sailings onboard the Quantum, Spectrum, Voyager and Odyssey of the Seas. “Our plan is to resume operations for most of our fleet on June 1st, 2021,” the email stated. “Our primary goal continues to be a seamless and healthy return to service. Miami-Dade paramedics rescue man from Azamara Pursuit cruise ship
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue picked up an injured cruise ship employee on Friday off the coast of Miami. The injured man transferred from the Azamara Pursuit, a cruise ship operated by Azamara Club Cruises, a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean Cruises, to the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s Fireboat 73. The cruise ship employee needed treatment at a local hospital, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
Woman barred from cruise line after daring selfie

A fellow passenger snapped a picture of her taking the selfie thinking she was possibly going to jump and alerted the crew. The woman was identified and later removed from the ship when it reached Jamaica. As a result, the cruise line said the woman and her companion are banned for life from any of its future trips.

Australian man falls overboard Royal Caribbean ship en route to St. Thomas
MIAMI - An Australian man fell overboard Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas ship early Wednesday morning while the cruise was en route to St. Thomas, Royal Caribbean spokesman Owen Torres confirmed to ABC News. According to Torres, the ship immediately turned and launched a rescue boat when the man fell overboard. Josh Mackey, a passenger onboard the ship, said he noticed search lights in the water between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. According to Mackey, he could see another cruise ship nearby and wasn't sure whether the victim had fallen from his ship or the other. It's unclear how the man fell overboard.

But the family's attorney, Michael Winkleman, of Miami-based law firm Lipcon, Margulies, Alsina & Winkleman, held a news conference Tuesday morning to dispute those claims. According to Winkleman, the toddler, identified as Chloe Wiegand, fell due to an open glass pane that should have been closed securely. Nelson Sotelo told The Associated Press that the grandfather is under investigation and the family of the child will remain in the U.S. territory until the investigation is complete. A spokeswoman said the ship departed Puerto Rico on Monday for St. Maarten on a new itinerary and declined further comment.

The grandfather sat the girl in the window and lost his balance, and the girl fell to her death. The girl had traveled to San Juan from the mainland with her parents, siblings and four grandparents. The ship was scheduled to depart for a weeklong voyage at 8:30 p.m. Sunday; the fall happened about 5 p.m., according to Carmona. The girl's body was taken to a forensic unit in San Juan.
