Additional COVID-19 testing dates announced for children in Miami-Dade County
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade County Public Schools has partnered with the University of Miami Health System to offer additional COVID-19 testing dates for children ages 4-18 in Miami-Dade County. The health system’s Pediatric Mobile Unit will be placed at various school parking lots throughout the month for testing. MIAMI – Registered clinical trials reached record levels in the past year, increasing the demand for people willing to participate, and Miami resident Marilyn Strauss Diaz was eager to join a COVID-19 vaccine trial underway at the University of Miami Health System. We have to have human trials for there to be a successful vaccine, so we have to have humans come forward and be a part of trials,” she said. “Before COVID, we usually would have a couple of hundred clinical trials here going at the same time at the University of Miami that are focused on a lot of different diseases. We also have a lot of cardiovascular disease, a lot of other studies focused on stroke, on preventing dementia,” Carassquillo added. The skull base surgery team performed UHealth’s first implant surgery in March 2019 on Hildeana Bodden, a woman in her 60s whose NF2 was causing her hearing to decline. The team’s bilingual ABI audiologists, Dr. Sandra Velandia and Dr. Diane Martinez, were able to communicate with Hildeana in Spanish, her native language, at her activation. Most people with NF2 generally are not candidates for cochlear implants, which require a working auditory nerve. A new paradigm in prostate cancer treatment

PSA levels, detected using a blood test, can be an indicator of prostate cancer. Ever since the FDA approved HIFU for the treatment of prostate cancer in December 2015, Dr. Parekh has been using HIFU to treat prostate cancers.
